Hearing Aid App Being Discontinued? What to Save Before It Goes Offline

A hearing aid can continue amplifying sound even when its companion App changes or disappears. But an App shutdown may affect setup, fine adjustments, cloud synchronization, future downloads, manuals, updates or access to support.

If a manufacturer announces an end date, do not wait until the final day. A calm, organized backup can preserve useful information and help you understand what the hearing aids can still do without the App.

Why this matters now

LXE Hearing has announced that the Lexie App will be removed from App stores and its cloud connection deactivated on October 8, 2026. The Eargo App is scheduled for removal and cloud deactivation on October 22, 2026. LXE says Version 9 is expected to keep working locally on a phone when it has been installed and synchronized before the relevant deadline, but future operating-system compatibility and functionality are not guaranteed.

Those dates apply to the named LXE products, not to every hearing-aid App. The broader lesson is useful for any connected hearing device: verify what depends on the App before access changes.

First, verify the notice

Use the manufacturer’s official website, App-store listing or direct support message. Check the exact product, country, App version and deadline. A social post or forwarded message may omit an important condition.

Watch for separate dates for App downloads, cloud service, customer support, warranty requests and manual access. Save the official notice as a PDF or screenshot together with the date you accessed it.

Update and synchronize only as officially directed

If the manufacturer instructs users to install a particular version and synchronize saved settings, follow the product-specific steps before the deadline. Connect the correct hearing aids, confirm the App recognizes them and check that your preferred local settings are present.

Do not install an App from an unofficial website or accept a file sent by a stranger. After an App leaves the official store, fake download links can create privacy and security risks.

Save the information the App does not own

Download the user manual, cleaning guide and troubleshooting instructions while the official pages remain available. Keep copies on a computer or trusted cloud-storage account that you control, not only inside the App.

Also save your receipt, order number, model name, serial numbers, warranty terms, return information and support correspondence. Photograph the product label and charging case if the serial information is difficult to read.

Write down your working setup

Record which program you normally use, your comfortable volume range, left and right balance if available, phone model, operating-system version and any accessories paired with the hearing aids. Screenshots may help you remember settings, but they do not automatically restore an App or transfer programming.

Ask the manufacturer which adjustments are stored in the hearing aids, which remain only on the phone and which require a cloud connection. The answer can differ by model.

Plan for phone replacement and operating-system changes

An App that remains on one phone may not be downloadable on a replacement phone after removal from an App store. Future phone or operating-system updates may also affect compatibility.

This does not mean you should ignore important security updates. Instead, understand the trade-off, keep your records current and identify an alternative hearing solution before an urgent phone failure forces the decision.

Separate App loss from a hearing emergency

If sound stops, try the manufacturer-approved checks for power, charging, placement, wax blockage and connection. An App problem does not prove that the hearing aid itself has failed.

A sudden drop in your actual hearing—especially in one ear over hours or days—is different from losing App access. Seek prompt medical evaluation rather than assuming the phone or hearing aid is responsible. Ear pain, drainage, bleeding or severe dizziness also needs appropriate professional care.

A simple shutdown checklist

  • Confirm the official deadline for your exact App and product.
  • Install the manufacturer-specified version from the official App store.
  • Open the App and complete any required synchronization.
  • Check which functions work without internet or cloud access.
  • Download manuals and care instructions.
  • Save receipts, serial numbers, warranty terms and support messages.
  • Record your preferred programs and phone configuration.
  • Ask what will happen if you replace or reset your phone.
  • Identify future support and replacement options before access ends.

A connected product includes more than the physical hearing aids. The App, cloud service, documentation and support path can all affect long-term use. Saving the right information now gives you more choices later.
